The FCC Drive Away Hunger was once again a huge success! Thanks to your generosity, we collected 642 pounds of food for our local food bank, South East Helping Hands. This organization serves over 1000 people in Steinbach and area each month, with almost half of those being children. Thank you! Thanks to the grade 4 students who helped weigh the food. Next up-watch for the annual Community Christmas Toy drive. More information will come out soon.

Last Thursday students in the green house spent part of the afternoon with Mrs. Amos and Mrs. Fraser at Flippers Gymnastics. Students spent time on the trampoline, bars, rings, balance beams, and vaults. We had lots of fun exercising and learning new skills.

At Woodlawn the students learned about bus safety in their classrooms and some of the teachers put on a bus safety skit during assembly for the students to enjoy. On Thursday, every class participated in bus evacuation drills so that all students will know what to do in case of a bus emergency. Woodlawn has many buses getting children to and from school every day. There are… Read More

The students and staff participated in the annual Terry Fox Run at Woodlawn School on September 30. The event started in the gym with an assembly by 4G who helped the rest of the school learn about Terry Fox and all of his accomplishments by sharing different facts about him and the Marathon of Hope. Mr. Adams showed a video and then Mrs. Schroeder led us in a song before we all headed outside to participate in our own “run”. It was a lot of fun and a great reminder that Terry Fox is a true Canadian hero. Students were encouraged to bring a “Toonie for Terry”. This money will be collected until the end of the week with all proceeds going to support cancer research. Way to go Woodlawn!

What a wonderful first week of school we had at Woodlawn School. The students and the teachers are having lots of fun getting to know each other. We had two assemblies this week and all of the staff shared their favorite memories of summer with the students. Friday’s assembly ended with a fun group song that got the whole gym moving and singing! Next week will be just as exciting. We will welcome all the Kindergarten students on Tuesday after having staggered entry on Friday and Monday. Strong Connections will start on Friday, September 18. A schedule will go home early next week. Have a great weekend!
